From driver to TCP operator: two paths, the same goal

It does not matter whether you come from Uber X or Uber Black. Although they are two different experiences, both paths can lead to the same goal: building your own transportation company.

Today I shared a reflection for all those drivers who are thinking about taking the next step and becoming TCP operators in California.

It does not matter whether you come from Uber X or Uber Black. Although they are two different experiences, both paths can lead to the same goal: building your own transportation company.

But there is something many people do not consider at first.

Getting your TCP license does not mean you automatically know how to run a business.

Now you have to learn how to find your own clients, set rates, control expenses, manage reservations, comply with regulations and, above all, offer a service that makes your clients want to come back.

And there is something I consider very important: you cannot be a lone wolf.

Surround yourself with other operators. Find mentors. Ask questions, listen and learn from the experiences of those who have already traveled that path.

Every operator has something to teach you. Some know the regulations better, others know about marketing, and others have experience managing vehicles or working with private clients.

And you also have knowledge you can share.

In my case, after many years working with apps, I am still learning every day as I build City Cruze L.A.

I have made mistakes, learned from other operators and also had the opportunity to share my experiences.

My reflection today: the goal is not just to leave Uber or Lyft. It is to learn to think like a business owner and build your own business that can grow over time.

Because being a good driver is one thing, and learning to be a good operator is another.

And that learning never ends.
